Kids on the Bayou

We believe that youth are the future stewards of Bayou Teche. We’ll take any opportunity we can to get kids out on the water. Our bayou cleanup days are kid-friendly, as is our Shake Your Trail Feather event and paddle.

We also introduced a new “Geaux Paddle” youth program in 2023 thanks to a Healthy Communities grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. Our first workshop took place June 9 and 10 and offered a two-day workshop for kids ages 10-14 that included paddling, trash pickup, a water quality experiment, art exhibit and more. The art portion of the workshop was led by Marla Kristicevich, and the resulting Chihuly-style sculpture made of recycled water bottles is currently on display at Bayou Teche Museum in New Iberia. Stay tuned for more details about our second Geaux Paddle workshop in summer 2024.
